We wouldn’t ordinarily dedicate an entire blog post to news regarding the processing times for civil eFilings in a superior court, but we have an exception on our hands!
I recently attended a townhall hosted by the San Bernardino Superior Court, and they shared some remarkable news; they are down to an average of 4 days to review and process civil eFilings!
This is compared to 46 days in November 2023 and 26 days at the beginning of 2024! They reviewed more than 33,000 filings in the month of June, and 11,000 in the month of July.
There was a small setback due to the CrowdStrike shutdown, but they have fantastic leadership in their technology department, and they were able to recover quickly and were back up and running in record time.
Other updates from the Court:
- They’ve expanded their list of docs that can be submitted via eFiling, and Default Judgment Packets are now accepted
- They’ve expanded eFiling to Victorville and Rancho Cucamonga courts
- They continue to ask that filers do not submit duplicate filings (e.g., via both paper and eFiling) as it only inflates their workload
- They ask that filers not submit documents exempt from eFiling (e.g., appeals docs) as this also inflates their workload
- They do not plan to mandate eFiling in civil case types until they can do it more effectively than their current setup. They will communicate in advance when they are ready to mandate, but likely won’t happen any time soon.
For those firms filing frequently into San Bernardino, this is great news, and you should see great improvements in your filing times for your documents.
